Flower Pot Card

sept-2-pages-page-007
Enjoy the Little Things!  What a great motto for life.  We are surrounded by so many beautiful blooms in gardens and parks at the moment and this stamp set reminds me of that.

A few years ago, someone clever made a flower pot card at one of my workshops and I always planned to do one but never got around to it.  I have a friend who is going through a tough time at the moment and thought this little card may brighten her day.

Wild Things

sept-2-pages-page-007
My baby sister turned 50 last year and a celebration at the zoo was planned.  It's her favourite place to go.  Unfortunately, the forecast was for rain all day so we relocated the event to my house.  We wanted her to feel like she was at the zoo, so pulled out all the stuffed animals and cushions with animal motifs to scatter about!  Gathering our adult children together is never easy and one was missing but we took the family photo regardless.  A snapshot in time.

English Markets

sept-2-pages-page-007
There is something about fresh produce markets that just draws Mike and I in.  We love the smells, the colours, the banter of the stall holders and the opportunity to see foods we haven't experienced before.  The English Markets in Cork did not disappoint.  We went back a second time too!  The cold meats, cheeses and marinated mushrooms were delicious - we enjoyed a beautiful picnic back in our B&B (because it was raining again) and washed our treats down with some bubbles.

HIgh Tea

sept-2-pages-page-007
I just love the way new ideas you happen upon so often fit with photos you are ready to scrapbook.  A cute folded dress card was shared on Facebook and I thought, "That's nice but I have nothing to use it for" and scrolled on past.  Then I found my daughter's High Tea photos and thought of this card.  Fortunately for me, a colleague showed me how to make it.  We found a template  on Pinterest. (I've made it the cover photo for my Cards board on my Pinterest page if you want to download it.)

Butler House - Washi Stamps

sept-2-pages-page-007
Our visit to this beautiful house in Kilkenny, Ireland last year was an absolute treat.  It was right next to the castle and had been lovingly restored.  When we travel we mainly stay in modest hotels or apartments but do like to 'splurge' once or twice along the way.  Mike picked this place and it did not disappoint.  If you are heading to Ireland I thoroughly recommend Butler House.

Butler houseI wanted a simple layout so I could fit lots of photos onto it.  I have very rapidly fallen in love with Washi Ta…

Craft Room Makeover

sept-2-pages-page-007
Many of you would have followed the posts about my craft room makeover on my facebook page and now you can see what I did with some of the photos.

Craftroom pagesI created my own background paper with a pen and a hole punch!  Begin with a full sheet of 12"x12" paper in a plain or subtle pattern.  When you lay this on your Versmat (Z1279) you can still see the measurements and markings around the paper.  Use the Ruler (Z1471) and a pigment ink pen to draw diagonal lines across the page.  Start in a corner going …

2014 Title Page

sept-2-pages-page-007
As a kid I just loved the start of a new year.  One of the best bits was making title pages in all my school books!  I know, "Nerd alert".  I always make a title page for my photo albums too and was keen to experiment with a stamping technique I've seen about the place.

This layout is taken from the Half & Half tags design on page 86 of Reflections How To book.  I love the ideas in this book - the basic designs are very simple and you can dress them up anyway you desire.  My sponge daubers got a …

Co-ordinating pages for unrelated themes

sept-2-pages-page-007
Sometimes we only have enough photos for a single page.  "WOW!" I hear you say, "Does that actually happen?"  The answer is , "Yes, occasionally."  When it does it brings the problem of needing to find a way to co-ordinate the two layouts so it remains pleasing to the eye when you turn to this page in your album.

Here are my tips for this situation...
  •  Keep the layouts simple
  • Use the same papers on both pages
  • Choose generic images or shapes for your decorations
  • Keep headings in the same styl…

Family time is the best time

sept-2-pages-page-007
As our kids grow the opportunities to just hang out together become fewer.  They are just so busy living life and being the well adjusted, social & opportunity seeking individuals we raised them to be!  I loved this afternoon stroll on our local dog beach.  We chatted and laughed and even touched on some D&M topics.  It's this everyday stuff that I cherish most and so it needs to be in my album.
